Methodology

Homogeneous Particle-Enhanced Turbidimetric Inhibition Immunoassay (PETINIA)

Vancomycin is an antibiotic used to treat life-threatening blood infections by certain gram-negative bacilli. This test is used for monitoring adequacy of blood concentration during vancomycin therapy.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Serum

Serum Gel Tube

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of serum

Collection Instructions: Draw blood 1 hour after completion of a 2 hour intravenous infusion or 2 hours after completion of a 1 hour intravenous infusion. Spin down within 4 hours of draw.

Note: 1. Date and time of last dose and time of draw are required.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

 

Alternate:

Serum

Plain, Red-Top Tube

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of serum

Plasma

Container/Tube: EDTA plasma (lavender top tube).

Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of plasma

Collection Instructions: Draw blood 1 hour after completion of a 2 hour intravenous infusion or 2 hours after completion of a 1 hour intravenous infusion. Spin down within 4 hours of draw.

Note: 1. Date and time of last dose and time of draw are required.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
