Methodology

Semi-quantitative nested real-time PCR

 

Useful for rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex DNA and Rifampicin resistance associated mutations of the rpoB gene.

Specimen Requirements

  • Specimen source is required
  • 24 hour collection is not acceptable

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Expectorated sputum-24-Hour collection is not acceptable.

Container/Tube: Sterile container, #6004913

Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

  1. Instruct patient to cough deeply and expectorate sputum into container.
  2. Label container with patient’s legal name, date of birth, date and time of collection, and type of specimen.

 

Note: A “deep cough” specimen, not saliva, must be collected for an adequate evaluation.
