Important Note

Notify the Laboratory if the patient has an allergy to gentamicin.
Testing is available by appointment only. The Physician's Office should make the appointment at minimum 1 day prior. Appointments are accepted between 12 noon and 2 p.m. daily. Services will not be provided without an appointment.

The instruction sheet for specimen collection is below. The Physician’s office must provide and review the instruction sheet with each patient.
The patient must bring the completed instruction form when they arrive for their appointment at the Laboratory.
All patients are required to have a laboratory order for the Sperm Wash testing and must be in the female patient name.

Light Microscopy

Separation of motile sperm utilizing a density gradient. The motile sperm are washed 2 times and concentrated for insemination.

Specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of collection.

Specimen Volume: Total ejaculate
Collection Instructions:

Collect specimen following a 2 to 7 day period of sexual abstinence.
Do not refrigerate.
Keep specimen as close to 37° C (body temperature) as possible during transport.
Deliver directly to laboratory.
