Important Note

  • The instruction sheet for specimen collection is below. The Physician’s office must provide and review the instruction sheet with each patient.
  • The patient must bring the completed instruction sheet to the laboratory when dropping off their specimen.
  • No appointment is necessary
  • Per KRMC Laboratory Policy, all patients must have a laboratory testing order for Semen Analysis, Post Vasectomy and are required to be in the name of the Male Patient.

Methodology

Light Microscopy

 

Post vasectomy semen samples are examined for the presence of sperm to evaluate the efficacy of the surgical procedure.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 2 hours of collection.

 

Container/Tube: Sterile container(s), #6004913 or Seminal Fluid Collection Kit
Specimen Volume: Total ejaculate
Collection Instructions:

  • Collect specimen following a 2 to 3 day period of sexual abstinence. 
  • Do not refrigerate.
  • Keep specimen as close to 37° C /  98.6 ° F (body temperature) as possible during transport.
  • Deliver directly to laboratory.

Specimen Rejection

  1. Specimen Collected in inappropriate container for transport
  2. Contaminated specimen
  3. Specimen at unacceptable temperature
