Important Note

*24 hours before this blood test: Do not take any supplements containing Biotin or Vitamin B7 which are commonly found in hair, skin, nail supplements, and multi-vitamins.

Sufficient Biotin concentrations in serum can provide falsely decreased results.

Methodology

Chemiluminescent Immunoassay - OrthoClinical Diagnostics Vitros 7600 XT

Useful as an aid in the management of patients with prostate cancer.

Note: If a PSA screen is desired in a patient with no history of prostate cancer, order PSAS “Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Screen, Plasma or Serum.”

Specimen Requirements

 

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Serum

Serum Gel Tube

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum-Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.

Collection Instructions: Specimen should be drawn before patient undergoes prostate manipulation procedures. Spin down within 4 hours of draw.

Note: Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Plain, Red-Top Tube

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube(s)
