Methodology
Colorimetric
The measurement of the protein content of urine is 1 of the most sensitive and useful tests for detecting and following the course of kidney disease. Generally the amount of protein in the urine bears a direct relationship to the severity of kidney damage. Proteinuria occurs in nearly all diseases of the kidney.
Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Specimen Volume: 10 mL from a well-mixed, 24-hour urine collection
Collection Instructions: No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
Note: 1. Starting and ending times of collection and total volume are required.
2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection, 24-Hour” in Special Instructions.
