Methodology
Direct Potentiometry
Urinary potassium may be elevated with dietary increase, hyperaldosteronism, renal tubular acidosis, and at the onset of alkalosis.
Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Specimen Volume: 5 mL from a well-mixed, 24-hour urine collection
Collection Instructions: No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
Note: 1. Starting and ending times of collection and total volume are required.
2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection, 24-Hour” in Special Instructions.
