Microscopic Examination
Useful for detection of the eggs of Enterobius vermicularis on the skin of the perianal folds

Instructions”
Collection Instructions:
- Obtain specimen in early a.m. before rising and prior to bathing and defecation. For small children, it is best to collect specimen early in the morning, just before the child awakens.
- Hold paddle by cap and remove it from tube.
- Separate buttocks and press tacky surface against several areas of perianal region.
- Return paddle to tube.
- Label tube with patient’s legal name, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
Note:
1. Stool specimen is not acceptable.
2. At least 4 consecutive negative slides should be observed before patient is considered free of infection.
3. Pinworm eggs are very infectious. Wash hands after collection.

Note: Enterobiasis tends to be a family infection. Therefore, it is recommended that all family members be tested.
