Methodology
Gas Permeable Membrane Technology
Useful for assessing acid-base balance.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of draw.
Container/Tube: Heparinized blood gas syringe
Specimen Volume: 1 mL (minimum volume: 0.2 mL)
of cord blood
Collection Instructions:
- Draw cord blood anaerobically into a heparinized blood gas syringe.
- Expel air bubbles and place on wet ice immediately. (Air bubble or clotted blood is not acceptable.)
- Specimen must be analyzed with 1 hour of draw.
