Methodology
Tube Testing
This test is performed to determine blood type (ABO) and Rh on newborn infants. The DAT is used to detect antibodies adsorbed to the surfaces of the infant’s RBCs which may cause hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN).
Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Lavender-top (EDTA) MICROTAINER®
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of whole blood

Note:
- If specimen is cord blood, send a minimum of 1 mL of EDTA cord blood.
- DAT must be performed within 24 hours of collection
