Methodology
Direct Solid Phase Immunoassay
Useful in the detection of infectious mononucleosis heterophile antibodies in serum or plasma. Test kit has not been validated for patients under 4 years. Consider alternate testing if results do not fit clinical presentation.
Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Serum Gel Tube
Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Serum gel
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Spin down and separate as soon as possible.
2. Label specimen as serum.
Alternate:
Plain, Red-Top Tube
Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Plain, red-top
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Spin down and separate as soon as possible.
2. Label specimen as serum.
Alternate:
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Green-top (lithium heparin) or
lavender-top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Spin down and separate as soon as possible.
2. Label specimen as plasma.
