Methodology
Two-point Rate
Theophylline is used in the treatment of bronchial asthma and apnea of the newborn. The measurement of theophylline is useful to assess and adjust dosage for optimal therapeutic level, and for assessing toxicity.
Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Serum
Serum Gel Tube
Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1
mL) of serum
Collection Instructions: Draw blood 4 hours post an oral dose or any time during continuous intravenous infusion, unless otherwise specified by physician. Spin down within 4 hours of draw.
Note: 1. Date and time of last dose and time of draw are required.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
