Methodology

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Amplification and Hybridization Capture of Amplified Target.

(PCR is utilized pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)

 

Useful for detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (the causative agent of gonorrhea)  from a swab or fluid form other sites

Specimen Requirements

SUBMIT ONLY 1 OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIMENS:

 

Throat

Specimen Volume: Entire Specimen

Collection Instructions:

  1. Insert the large, sterile swab into the pharynx and rotate against any inflamed ulcerated area and around the tonsillar area.
  2. Carefully removed the swab without touching any other area of the mouth.
  3. Place swab in collection kit transport tube.
  4. Break swab shaft at score marking, replace cap tightly.
  5. Label tube with patient’s legal name, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.

 

Other: Eye, Peritoneal fluid (pelvic wash, cul-de-sac fluid)

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen/ 1 mL fluid

Collection Instructions:

  1. Swab are of interest.
  2. Withdraw the swab carefully.
  3. Place swab in collection kit transport tube.
  4. Break swab shaft at score marking, replace cap tightly.
  5. Label tube with patient’s legal name, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
