Methodology
The FilmArray Meningitis/Encephalitis (ME) CSF, PCR Panel is a qualitative multiplexed nucleic acid based in vitro diagnostic test that detects the following organisms:
- Escherichia coli K1
- Haemophilus influenzae
- Listeria moncytogenes
- Neisseria meningitidis
- Streptococcus agalactiae
- Cytomegalovirus
- Enterovirus
- Herpes simplex virus 1
- Herpes simplex virus 2
- Human herpes virus 6
- Human parechovirus
- Varicella Zoster virus
- Cryptococcus neoformans/gatti
Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 2 hours of collection.
Container/Tube: Sterile tube(s)-Anticoagulant tube is not acceptable.
- Lumbar Puncture Kit - CSF Tube or
- Sterile Black Top Tube or
- Sterile Red Top Tube
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of CSF
Collection Instructions:
- Aseptically collect 1 mL to 2 mL of CSF from lumbar puncture. Contamination with normal flora from skin or other body surfaces must be avoided.
- Divide CSF into 1 to 4 screw-capped, sterile tubes.
- Tubes should be numbered in order of draw 1, 2, 3, 4 with tube #1 representing first portion of specimen collected.
