Methodology
Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)/DNA Probe Hybridization
Useful for rapid (qualitative) detection of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2) viral DNA.

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen
Collection Instructions:
- Collect lesion and dermal specimen using a culture swab with plastic shaft from the Universal Viral Transport, #75681
- Carefully insert swab into site to be tested and roll swab 5 times.
- Place swab in vial of medium.
- Break swab shaft at score marking, replace cap tightly.
- Label tube with patient’s legal name, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
