Methodology

Turbidimetric Inhibition Immunoassay

Useful for the diagnosis and treatment of gentamicin overdose and to monitor drug therapy.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Serum

Serum Gel Tube

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of serum

Collection Instructions: Draw blood for “once daily” dosages 18 hours after completion of 60 minute intravenous infusion. Spin down as soon as possible after draw.

Note: 

1. Date and time of last dose and time of draw are required.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

 

Alternate:

Serum

Plain, Red-Top Tube

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of serum

Specimen Volume: 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of plasma

Collection Instructions: Draw blood for “once daily” dosages 18 hours after completion of 60 minute intravenous infusion. Spin down as soon as possible after draw.
