Methodology
NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing)
Useful for the detection of Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Beta hemolytic Streptococcus) in throat swab specimens.
Specimen Requirements

Collection Instructions:
- Remove cap and swab from tube.
- Tilt patient’s head back to assist in opening of mouth as wide as possible.
- Depress tongue with a tongue depressor so swab doesn’t touch tongue.
- Instruct patient to say “Ahh” (this elevates uvula).
- Vigorously swab the tonsils and the posterior pharynx.
- Insert swab into moist sponge in swab container to preserve specimen.
- Label container and tube with patient’s legal name, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
