Wright’s Stain, Microscopy
Description and semiquantitation of eosinophils in nasal secretions may be helpful in diagnostic and therapeutic processes relating to the distinction between allergic and nonallergic rhinitis.
Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: 2 slides
Specimen Volume: Entire specimen
Collection Instructions:
- Instruct patient to blow his/her nose into waxed paper.
- Moisten a cotton swab with sterile saline and roll swab in nasal secretions.
- Prepare 2 thin smears on glass slides. It is important that a relatively thin smear be prepared.
- Label slides with patient’s legal name and date of birth.
- Place slides in a plastic slide holder.
