Important Note

Plasma or serum and Urine are required.

Blood specimen must be drawn within 72 hours before or after urine collection.

Methodology

Two-point Rate

Useful as 1 of the most sensitive tests for measuring the glomerular filtration rate.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following blood specimens:

Serum Gel Tube

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum

Collection Instructions: Spin down within 4 hours of draw.

Note: Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Serum

Plain, Red-Top Tube

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of serum

Collection Instructions: Spin down within 4 hours of draw.

Note: Label specimen appropriately (serum).

 

Plasma

Container/Tube: Green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of plasma

Collection Instructions: Spin down within 4 hours of draw.

Note: Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

 

Urine
Container/Tube:
Plastic urine container

Specimen Volume: 10 mL from a well-mixed, 24-hour urine collection

Collection Instructions: No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection.

 

Note: 

  1. Patient’s height and weight, starting and ending times of collection, and total volume are required.
  2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection, 24-Hour” in Special Instructions.
  3. Label specimen appropriately (urine).
