Methodology

Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE)

 

Useful for assessing calcium states during cardiopulmonary bypass or any procedure requiring rapid transfusion of whole blood in neonates and in critically ill patients. Second-order test in the evaluation of patients with abnormal calcium values.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube or MICROTAINER® with gel

Specimen Volume: Full tube or MICROTAINER®

Collection Instructions:

  1. Fill tube completely.
  2. Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes,
  3. spin down with stopper in place for 10 minutes at 3,500 rpm to ensure separation of serum and cell layers by gel barrier.
  4. Keep specimen tightly capped (do not transfer) and forward promptly in original tube/MICROTAINER®.
