Methodology
Colorimetric
Useful for identification of abnormal physiologic states causing excess or suppressed excretion of calcium, such as hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D abnormality, diseases that destroy bone, prostate cancer, and drug treatment, such as thiazide therapy.
Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Specimen Volume: 10 mL from a well-mixed, 24-hour urine collection
Collection Instructions: No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
Note: 1. Starting and ending times of collection and total volume are required.
2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection, 24-Hour” in Special Instructions.
