Specimen Requirements
Acceptable Specimens:
Amniotic, ascitic, disc, gallbladder, gastric, joint, pancreatic, pericardial, peritoneal, peritoneal dialysis, pleural, synovial, or thoracentesis fluid
Container/Tube: Sterile container(s)
- Sterile Black Top Tube or
- Sterile Red Top Tube or
- Sterile container,#6004913
Specimen Volume: >2 mL (minimum volume: 0.5 mL) of body fluid
Collection Instructions:
- Aseptically collect body fluid.
- Transfer body fluid to sterile container(s).
- If collected with a needle and syringe, remove needle and cap syringe.
- Label container(s)/syringe with patient’s legal name, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
