Methodology

Tube Testing

Useful for determining presence or absence of a specified antigen on a donor unit of RBCs prior to crossmatching and transfusing to a patient with unexpected antibodies to RBCs.

Note: Specify antigen requested. If antigen typing of a patient’s erythrocytes is desired, see AGP “Antigen Typing, RBC, Patient, Blood.”

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Plastic container(s)

Specimen Volume: One blood segment from each donor unit to be screened for specified RBC antigen

Collection Instructions: Appropriately label each segment.
