Methodology

Includes direct smear slide preparation and/or THIN PREP® preparation, cell block preparation (if adequate material), Papanicolaou staining, and microscopic cytologic evaluation.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Plastic container(s)

Specimen Volume: Entire specimen

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Submit fresh washings in original plastic container.

2. Label container (not lid) with patient’s legal name, date of birth, specimen source, and date and time of collection.

 

Note:

1. When microbiology culture or testing is also ordered, immediately submit fresh (unfixed) specimen to the Microbiology Department before forwarding to Cytology Department.

2. Specimen source, patient’s name, age, and sex are required.
